What is cloning?
Cloning is the process of making a genetically identical organism through nonsexual means. This means that every single bit of DNA is the same between the two! The copied material, which has the same genetic makeup as the original, is referred to as a clone.
You may have first heard of cloning when Dolly the Sheep showed up on the scene in 1997. Cloning technologies have been around long before Dolly. Since Dolly, several scientists have cloned other animals, including cows and mice. The recent success in cloning animals has sparked fierce debates among scientists, politicians and the general public about the use and morality of cloning plants, animals and possibly humans.
